Dehumanize the Enemy
In a CNN report with Paula Zahn Now, she interviewed two military servicemen: Sgt Kenneth Davis, military policeman and Specialist Roman Kohl, military intelligence, regarding the Abu Ghraib prison abuses.
My comments are mainly about Specialist Kohl. I am surprise how young he is given such responsibility. That being said, Spec. Kohl was so incredulous toward the civilian detainees’ i.e. Iraqi people in general. He expressed no remorse, no feeling for the Iraqi, whatsoever, in essence to dehumanize the enemy. To me, this is reminiscing of Hitler’s Nazi Germany toward the Jews and other groups during WWII. How have we gotten to this point is the question? As an American, a veteran, I am ashamed. Is it because of our so-call American Christian values? Only Sgt. Davis who came forth to tell his story based on his personal convictions according to him. Unfortunately, Spec. Kohl will be charge more than likely under the UCMJ because he incriminated himself by his own admission.
I wish only that our civilians and military leaders would come forth with their truth and not scapegoats these young soldiers to punish them for others leadership failures.
