Torture

I disagree with John Horst’s comments “War is Hell” in the W-H, 13 December 2007. From his tone, it is quite obviously that Mr. Horst may not have worn the uniform of our military services. Torture does not work i.e. “water-boarding.” Torture is a crime both domestically and again the Geneva Convention. A U.S. Senator characterized it as back stroke swimming.

In past and present wars, indigenous forces will fight you to their death for a bowl of rice or religious belief. We fight for our buddies on our left and on our right. Our military culture does not demand that capture prisoners of war be subjective to torture beside giving their name, rank and service number. Probably, 90 percent of the military does not have any intelligent and operational information of any value. Therefore, torture is counter productive.

It have been reported that the CIA torture two or three Al Qaeda jihads which accordingly prevented a dozen terrorist attacks while waging a war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I thought that the purpose to water-boarding these prisoners were to find WMD and Osama Bin Laden we got neither.

As a patriots and former military, my country, our country, should not be in this medieval barbaric Middle Age behavior of inhuman torture. Finally, I will only say this… be careful what you wish for.
