An American Portrait
America is the land of opportunity: a pristine land of beauty, mountains, forests and rolling hills from sea to shinning sea. We came by ships from far away distance lands, few in number, then by tens, hundreds, tens of thousands to cultivate the land of its fruits, bounties and wealth. We plowed the land and built shelters by hand, moved North, South and westward by wagon-trains across the open frontier with their bible, faith and dreams of a promise land. We warmed the hearts of the indigenous people, Native-Americans, but overtime, war, genocide, and smallpox were bough upon the land.
Then there were the slave ships upon the ocean blue, disembarking its human cargo of Africans in chain and bondage too, only to be enslaved as beast of burden for the disenchanted to see. Our brethen in uniform of blue and gray, died for me, as Civil War waged to free all men equal to me; whereas, slaves escape North where freedom ring. Let freedom ring! In time, it was the Americans of Japanese descendant imprisoned in interment camps, just because; they didn't look like me. Yet with patriotism they served their country well and fought for thee wearing the red, white and blue. Let us not forget our Muslims brothers too; who are on display, temporarily, we hope... to another day to pray on bending knees as we look away. They will become the next bird of prey.
Finally, it was the Mexican to be force from their communities of long stay, out of fear; they flight for a better day. America creed has pride itself as a melting pot for all who come to be free, so open your arms for all to see.
"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free."
Are we really free or it is only me?
When they came for Native-American Indians and nothing was said. When they enslaved black Africans, a Civil War of thousands dead, and nothing was said. Imprison Japanese-Americans and apologized in time and again nothing was said. Now, there are Muslims and millions of Mexicans too who dare not speak for fear of flight and nothing is being said. When will they come for me?
Together we stand, divided we fall: America is a great nation fall all; we pay allegiance to its creed, and in the words of Martin Luther King Jr. "free at last, free at last, thank God Almighty; we are free at last."
