Trayvon Could Have Been Me!
President Obama’s comments in
regard to the Martin/Zimmerman's affair. The President said: “ Trayvon Martin
could have been me” killed without probable cause. As the President and a father he should give
voice to this event as delicate and explosive it could have become. What the president emphasized was reflection
on racism “ringing out bias “ and stereotype in people psychic also the collective anger and
grief experience by Afro-Americans while some whites through right-wing media are inflaming the animosity. This event is not really Trayvon Martin and George Zimmerman and the verdict per se. Maybe Mr. Zimmerman's mind-set perpetuate that blacks are "suspects" the day they were born into the system from inadequate education and throughout the legal system, etc.. That is the message we hear. This mind-set is about us as a people and how we relates to one another in harmony. That
is the narrative. These stand your
ground laws passed by Republicans legislatures in 33 states are highly problematic
and right-wing agenda push by American Legislation Exchange Council (ALEC). My perspective is to bring
forward insight, enlightenment, and the history of black's experience in America. The death of this child, Trayvon Martin, will not promote changes in the foreseeable future with 300 years as a guide, however, only a mile post for changes in laws that are equally fair and just for all. President Barack Obama said it quite well. He said: We are want a "more perfect union not a perfect union." If this nation can progress forward in unity we must change the Nation's state of mind on race relation.
