Failures in Leadership
Byline: Omaha W-H, Art., Sept 6, 2004:
In an Aug. 26 CNN report on "Paula Zahn Now," the host interviewed two military servicemen: Sgt. Kenneth Davis, military policeman, and Spc. Roman Krol, a military intelligence specialist, regarding the Abut Ghraib prison abuses.
My comments are mainly about Spc. Krol. I am surprised how young he is, given such responsibility. That being said, Spc. Krol's statements about the civilian detainees and Iraqi people in general were incredible. He expressed no remorse or feeling for the Iraqis whatsoever,in essence dehumanizing the enemy.
To me, this is reminiscent of the actions of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany [mind-set] toward the Jews and other groups during World War II. How have we gotten to this point?
As an American and a veteran, I am ashamed. Unfortunately, Spc. Krol more than likely will be charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice because he incriminated himself by his own admission.
I wish only that our civilians and military leader would come forth with the truth and not scapegoat these young soldiers by punishing them for others leadership failures.
